What Is That Thing? An Inside Look at Your Personal Computer
Pamela Boyer Sayre, CG, CGL

Beginners often go to the local computer superstore and purchase an expensive computer system with the sole purpose of tracing their family trees. They eagerly appear at computer genealogy classes to learn about the Internet, but don't even know how to use a mouse or locate a specific directory.

This lecture provides a layman's simple overview of the workings of a typical personal computer. Clear graphics illustrate the hard drive, floppy drive, CD-ROM drive, memory chips, motherboard, fan, and other parts, and the lecturer provides direct, easy-to-understand explanations of their functions. The basics of navigating in Windows, "mousing," and directory structures also are demonstrated.
