Speaking of... Using Speech Recognition on Your PC
Pamela Boyer Sayre, CG, CGL

Speech recognition programs used with your word processor, spreadsheet, genealogy database, and other programs allow you to speak your mind. If typing is slow and tedious or you are wearing out your poor wrists using the keyboard, you can use your voice instead of your fingers to enter the words and data you want. When you speak, your words are immediately transformed into written text.

Microsoft Windows XP includes free speech recognition tools, and stand-alone programs such as Dragon Naturally Speaking are affordably priced. Learn to use a microphone headset with these tools to enter text, add punctuation, make corrections, and add unfamiliar words to the program's vocabulary.
